An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the busy Ultrasound team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW), working in collaboration with the South West Imaging Training Academy (SWITA) team, as the Sonography Practice Educator ( Band 8a).

You must be committed to developing and enhancing training opportunities for all learners involved in ultrasound imaging across the region. This role will work to improve the recruitment, retention and training for the Sonography workforce by managing and facilitating the Bristol 'spoke' of SWITA, supporting both trainee Sonographers and Radiologists.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based predominantly at UHBW and will manage the day to day running of the ultrasound training room, in partnership with UHBW and SWITA. There will be a requirement, on occasion, to travel between the SWITA hubs and spokes to support training delivery.

The main focus of the role will be training and education delivered to selected patients in a calm and controlled environment. The post will also include a shared level of responsibility for all aspects of the ultrasound service including Health and Safety and Clinical Governance, with the local Sonography Leads.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • PG study and qualification in General Medical, gynaecological and obstetric ultrasound specialist fields studied at Masters level.
  • Registration - HCPC or Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT).

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Comprehensive and extensive knowledge and experience in the general, gynaecological (E) and obstetric (D) ultrasound modalities.
  • Significant experience at Enhanced practice level, minimum of three years post qualification experience.
  • Act independently and manage own workload on a day to day basis.
  • Able to instruct and supervise others.
  • Previous NHS experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Small parts and MSK experience
  • Has undertaken educationally focussed and accredited modules to support and enhance delivery of clinical education.
