Holy Cross College is seeking to appoint a permanent Curriculum Leader of English to commence from September 2025.

You will join us on a permanent basis with a salary on the Leadership spine at points 1 - 2: £55,094 to £56,509 per annum (subject to progression to scale 9 of the Teaching Staff Salary Scale) plus excellent benefits!

The English Department is well-established and very successful. We offer English Literature, English Language, English Language and Literature courses at A Level (Eduqas) and GCSE re-sit classes in English Language (AQA). At Holy Cross most subjects are clustered and led by a Curriculum Leader, so it is anticipated that the successful applicant will have a leadership responsibility for other subject areas.

The English team are all involved in providing a wide range of extra and super-curricular activities to extend students' appreciation of English as a subject and preparation for further study and careers. There is a book club, English Extension group and regular trips to the theatre, the MMU Poetry Library and creative writing workshops.

We also run regular university trips to raise aspirations for students. More widely, staff regularly support the Excellence Programme at Holy Cross College which aims to provide young people with opportunities to progress onto highly competitive courses at university and beyond.

The successful candidate will join a highly effective team which works together on all aspects of teaching and learning. The success of this collaborative approach is reflected in excellent student achievement at A level which exceeds national benchmarks.

We remain committed to getting the very best from ourselves and from our students and there are frequent training opportunities allowing staff to update their skills and knowledge. All our teachers are involved in planning and evaluating what we do, working with the other members of an enthusiastic and committed team.

We are seeking to appoint an innovative, enthusiastic and skilled teacher and Curriculum Leader. We very much welcome applications from those with experience of working in either the school or college sectors.
