Job overview

Our operating theatres are recruiting for a part time Band 2 experienced perioperative care support worker. We would like you to join us in delivering the highest standards of care in a well-equipped, safe environment with Our ‘Right Care’ behaviours of compassion, a commitment to quality of care and working together for patients as a priority.

Our specialties include Ophthalmology, General Surgery, ENT, Gynecology, Urology, Maxilla-facial, elective Orthopedics, Acutes & trauma, Obstetrics and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit.

You may already have experience in this role. We require staff to cover a 24 hour service over a 7 day period.

Full time or will consider part time (minimum 28 hours per week)

Main duties of the job

To undertake a range of duties including clerical and patient care activities under the direct supervision of a Registered Practitioner ODP, Nurse or a Senior Perioperative Care Assistant. Theatre Support staff will assist the Registered Practitioners to deliver patient care and prepare the environment in which care is delivered.

In pursuing these duties, the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution and be familiar with the NHS England Guidance ‘Understanding the new NHS’.

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, including observation, listening & reaction as required.verbal & IT

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths & English GCSE
  • Numeracy & Literacy Skills Level 2
Desirable criteria
  • BTEC Health & Social studies
  • The Care Certificate
  • QCF Level 2 / 3 Heath Diploma or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a team which can be transferred into the theatre teamwork
  • Previous experience of working with the public with transferable skills to work with theatre patients.
Desirable criteria
  • Health care experience
  • Previous experience of working in the operating theatre

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A Comprehensive understanding of working in the Operating Theatre
  • Understanding of the NHS Constitution and its implications
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of IT systems, Electronic patient records Trisoft, Health Edge
