The Royal Cornwall Hospital is currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Radiographer to join our Interventional Radiology team.

The Diagnostic Imaging Department has recently achieved accreditation through the Quality Standards for Imaging (QSI) and has been inspected and rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Outstanding’, the highest possible rating.

The Clinical Imaging Service is county wide offering patient’s high quality diagnostics in their local community hospital or specialist services at the Royal Cornwall, St Michaels and West Cornwall Hospitals.

Dependent on experience the successful candidate may initially start as a Band 5 Trainee IR Radiographer. We have an accelerated pathway for Band 5 to Band 6 progression. The successful candidate is given comprehensive training in IR alongside leadership skills.

You will be a valuable member of the team in the provision of a quality led and timely imaging service. We actively support and encourage Radiographers in their career development and are committed to providing increased opportunities to widen specialist skills, extend roles and deliver advanced practice.

There is an active CPD and audit calendar within the department with involvement from all staff groups.

There are 1 full-time posts available.

To support the delivery of a wide range of diagnostic and interventional

procedures carried out in the IR theatre suite, the Cardiac Catheter Labs and the gastrointestinal/general fluoroscopy suite
To work with the IR Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner Radiographers to ensure the efficient and cost effective delivery of the IR service.
To work as part of a team providing a 7 day and out of hours IR service including ‘on-call’.

To act as shift co-ordinator in the absence of the IR Team Leader or Advance Practitioner, taking responsibility for the operation of the IR department, including prioritising the workload, managing workflow and staff resources to ensure the highest standards of patient care are achieved.

To make operational management decisions out of hours in the absence of the Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner in IR.
To work with the Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner Radiographers to continually improve the IR service.
Justify radiology referrals (within scope of practice) using referral criteria which falls within the Royal College of Radiologists Guidelines and Clinical Imaging protocols.
To comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulation (IRR 17), Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) regulations (IR(ME)R 2017) and the Trust Radiation Safety Policy.

Liaise closely with Consultant Radiologists and colleagues within clinical multidisciplinary teams to ensure that patients receive optimum care

The Imaging Department currently takes student Radiographers from Exeter University and is a training site for Radiologists. We also have Assistant Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners (including Reporting Radiographers), and Consultant Radiographers in post and are committed to developing the knowledge and skills of our workforce.
