Endoscopy lists including variceal screening and primary treatment. Key member of the Hepatology MDT (multidisciplinary team) team Outpatient clinics including Cirrhosis/ Immune liver disease/ Hepatitis B/ Fatty liver disease clinics. Provision of inpatient care to the dedicated specialty bed base on a 1:8 Rota Contribution to the GI bleed out of hours on-call Rota on a 1:8 basis Leadership roles within sub-specialty areas Supervision of junior doctors and nursing staff Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working Support from the professional and experienced secretarial team Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10 PA timetable Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service Examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles We are excited to include in this post some GIM (General Internal Medicine) training time for those clinicians who are dual accredited in Hepatology and GIM.
Within the job plan for this position are up to 1.5 PA of DCC to General Internal Medicine (GIM), which is to enable the successful applicant to be part of the team delivering inpatient care to general medical inpatients. The new department of GIM, within the Specialty and Integrated Medicine Clinical Service Unit, will be staffed by 15 dual-accredited physicians from Group 1 specialties.These consultants will work a consultant of the week model of care on a one-in-eight Rota, providing a daily consultant ward round (4-hour duration). This is a brand-new service and will provide exciting opportunities for successful candidates to meet and work with colleagues from allied specialties, be involved in service development and quality improvement, as well as gain useful leadership and management experience.
The GIM PAs in colleagues job plans will be reviewed after two years in post, with the likelihood (subject to individual wishes and confirmation with your line manager) of this activity being passed on as new Group 1 specialty consultants are appointed to the organization, allowing incumbents to return that time to their department and allow them to further develop their parent specialty interests.
We make a commitment that no longer than 3 years will be needed to be provided in GIM, but we are hopeful that some colleagues will continue to partake in this Rota in the in the long term.
