Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our Care of the Elderly Therapy Team. Our team comprises of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Apprentices and Therapy Assistants.
We promote education and service development and use our connections with Bournemouth University, Health Science University College and surrounding Trusts to ensure we are delivering the best care and service to our population.
Main duties of the job
The therapist works as an integral member of the Occupational Therapy team
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties and to carry a significant caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with complex presentations
To work at an advanced level and be professionally and legally accountable for a specialised patient caseload, and decide priorities for own work area, without direct supervision.
In conjunction with the Team Lead, the post holder participates in a rolling programme of education, clinical evaluation, audit and research across the speciality.
To promote and demonstrate safe, timely and appropriate discharge planning.
To provide leadership and clinical guidance for junior staff, therapy assistants, students and ward staff.
To take part in weekend working rotas

Person specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Registered as an Occupational Therapist with HCPC
- Evidence of other relevant and recent CPD/training
- Member of Special Interest Group
- Undertaken appropriate managerial/leadership training
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria- Minimum of 2 years post graduate experience
- Inpatient experience
- Experience of teaching and supporting junior staff
- Evidence of engagement with regional networks /other partners (Community Trust, social services
- Working across organisations eg: Schools/hospitals.
- Experience of working with a variety of patient conditions
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria- Ability to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner
- Ability to keep accurate and legible clinical notes
- Ability to demonstrate clear depth of clinical reasoning and knowledge of OT assessment and interventions relating to this specialty, commensurate with Band 6 level
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritising case load effectively
- To show an understanding of clinical governance and its implication for the Occupational Therapy Service.
- Experience in completing local projects
- Evidence of supporting team members

- Ability to contribute to weekend working
- Ability to manage own stress and work on a stressful to unpredictable environment
- To show empathy to patient and colleagues
