Bank Support Worker - Kingsteignton Area

We have a rare opportunity and are currently recruiting for a bank support worker, to join a lovely, well-established team, providing help and support to our young adult client who has cerebral palsy. The client uses a wheelchair and the latest, specialist equipment to enable him to sit, stand and move around.

His home is fully modified to his needs. He has no verbal communication but has adapted to this and knows, in his own way, how to make his needs known!

Our client has a great sense of humour, enjoys jokes and slapstick comedy. He regularly attends hydrotherapy which he finds very beneficial. He loves going out in the community, being in nature, watching the trees and birds.

Our client has 2:1 support during waking hours to assist with his hoisting and transfers and sleep in care during the night. The client lives with his family and two younger siblings but has his own separate annexe next to the family home, making it a pleasant, friendly environment to work in.

The right applicant will be a team player, as they will be joining the pre-existing team of nine. The role involves full assistance with personal care, promoting the client’s choices and helping him to engage in meaningful daily activities. All training will be given and will include administering medication, oral suction and gastrostomy feeding.

The role will involve supporting the client at home and in all aspects of his life, including accessing the community.

Qualifications and Experience Required:
As a minimum, applicants will be expected to have 2 years’ experience of caring for young adults with physical or learning disabilities.
NVQ level 2 in health and social care is desirable.
First Aid training will be required and applicants with a recent first aid qualification are desirable.

The ability to use IT systems, such as email, intranet and electronic records is essential.

A patient, warm, caring, reliable and trustworthy person is needed who can work as part of a team. Training, supervision and support will be provided as required.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.

Salary: There are various shifts, these include weekday, weekend and sleep shifts, including 24-hour shifts.

£14.50 per hour weekdays
£15.72 per hour weekends

£11.44 per hour sleep in care.

You will be employed directly by the client, however, SSCM oversees all aspects of the client’s care package on her behalf.
