Support Worker / Senior Support Worker - Residential Childcare

Our client is looking to recruit a number of Support Worker and Senior Support Workers/Team Leaders for their Residential Childcare Homes around Birmingham.

Support Worker - up to £13 per hour + £50 per sleep in payments (Full time - 40 hours per week)

Senior Support Worker - £14 per hour + £50 per sleep in payments (Full time - 40 hours per week)

Job Purpose

Ensuring children and young people are safe and healthy and able to make a positive contribution and realise their full potential through enjoyment, achievement and economic wellbeing.

  • Ensuring financial sustainability appropriate to the job role

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the effective implementation of individual programmes by supporting the care, teaching and learning, social and independence activities and experiences, which enhance the learning and development of Children and Young People.
  • Manages the wellbeing and behaviour of Children and Young People ensuring any significant behavioural or physical occurrences are promptly addressed and reported, referring to a senior colleague as appropriate.
  • Assists senior colleagues with the compilation of care and learning plans.
  • Prepares incident and other reports and updates daily records and logs as required.
  • Maintains professional relationships whilst developing a good rapport with young people, students, pupils, colleagues, visitors and other stakeholders.
  • Through own professional behaviour, including adhering to policies and procedures, contributes to the maintenance of safety, security and confidentiality standards.
  • Adapts newly proven techniques within registered home.
  • Ensures young people who use our client's services are getting value for their money.

Knowledge / Education / Skills:

  • QCF level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or similar relevant care/children and young people related area or higher recognised qualification.
  • N.B. It is not anticipated that all new recruits to the role will have QCF Level 3 qualification but will commence the attainment process within six months of joining and will have a specific time period in which to qualify.

Experience:

  • Previous general work experience which will assist in supporting the educational and social development of children or young people.

Responsibility

Leadership

No direct line management responsibility, however indirect leadership to provide influence in area of speciality.

Budgets & Equipment

Collective responsibility for the care and security of equipment and adhering to the cost and budget guidelines.

Information

Shared responsibility for the confidentiality, security and accuracy of records, data and information. Ensuring good quality documentation, which meets the Organisational requirements Regulatory guidelines and statutory requirements.

Communication & Interaction

Communications will regularly require some judgement involving the seeking and gathering of information with the need for some explanation. May have interactions which contain distressing information.

Safeguarding

All colleagues have a responsibility to protect and safeguard vulnerable individuals at risk (whether children or adults). Colleagues must be aware of local child and adult protection procedures and who to contact within the Local Authority Safeguarding team for further advice.

All colleagues are required to attend safeguarding awareness training and to undertake additional training appropriate to their role.

Working Environment

The educational and social challenges experienced by the young people may, at times, give rise to unusual or anti-social behaviour which can be very emotionally and physically demanding.

The role holder will be expected to undergo certified training and refresher courses in a range of areas including Child Protection, Physical Intervention, Behavioural Management, first aid, fire prevention, and Health and Safety at Work and other specialist training related to the location.

Essential Criteria:

  • Have worked with Children and Young people with challenging behaviour in the past or in your own personal capacity (not essential).
  • Comfortable with shift patterns and sleep in's (essential).

Experience:

  • Residential Childcare: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Minimum L3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or work towards (preferred; essential for Senior/Team Leader role)
  • UK Full Driving Licence (required)
