The role

Westminster Under School is looking for a personable, experienced and empathetic Counsellor to support the delivery of our counselling and psychotherapeutic services.

The Counselling Service is an important pillar of the School’s support for pupil welfare and the School Counsellor will play a key role at the heart of this provision. They will work with young people with a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties, providing supportive counselling, as well as undertaking more complex assessments and treatment of pupils’ mental health difficulties.

The Counsellor will forge close working relationships with all members of staff to support the wellbeing of pupils, including the Assistant Master (Pastoral) and the Heads of Year. They will offer key assistance and advice to staff members, in order to help with the ongoing support of pupils.

Additionally, the Counsellor will maintain a strong working relationship with the Learning Development Department, ensuring that pupils who have access arrangements and neurodiverse profiles are able to be supported as effectively as possible.

About you

The successful candidate will be a qualified child and adolescent counsellor, or psychotherapist registered with an appropriate professional body. They will have experience of providing formal assessment, treatment and management of young people with a range of mental health difficulties, including children and adolescents with neurodiverse requirements.

They will also demonstrate an understanding of multiple theoretical backgrounds and the ability to employ methods based upon evidence of efficacy. In addition to this, excellent communication, organisational and teamwork skills are essential for success in this role.
