We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Team at Singleton Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the pharmacy service to the Acute Oncology/Haematology wards.

We are looking for a pharmacist to provide a pharmacy service to wards and dispensary. You will be involved with various new projects and initiatives to develop our service in a changing landscape whilst always ensuring safe and effective medicines management for our patients.

Singleton is the Centre of Excellence for Cancer for South West Wales, Women’s and Children’s Health including maternity services and NICU are also a large directorate on site with the addition of surgery, ophthalmology, dermatology, HIV & sexual health.

The post holder will provide the required clinical pharmacy and prescribing support to help manage oncology/haematology inpatients, and their subsequent discharge from the ward. They will work closely with pharmacy colleagues, nursing staff, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care.

There will be potential for future opportunities to develop and utilise independent prescribing as part of the ward MDT.

Main duties of the job

Working alongside clinical colleagues you will be integrated into the multidisciplinary team to support all the pharmaceutical needs at ward level, and be proactive in provision of timely evidence-based advice to prescribers to enhance patient care and promote cost-effective use of medicines.

The post-holder would participate in a rota to cover Clinical Pharmacy wards & dispensary duties.

Supervision, mentoring and training of junior colleagues will also be a major component of the job.

In addition, the role will require the ongoing completion of core directorate activities including analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance audits, service improvement projects and risk management.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills combined with good time management and organisational skills.

Experience of mentoring the clinical diploma and foundation trainee pharmacists will be welcome but is not essential.

IP qualification is desirable for this role, but not essential

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • Post Graduate MSc/ Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Member of the GPhC
  • Independent Prescriber

Experience

  • Experience as clinical pharmacist in specialist area
  • Ability to work in a highly specialist area
Desirable criteria
  • Proven track record of competence. Evidence of clinical audit, practise research, implementation of procedures, protocols
