Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Data Analyst to join our forward-thinking Insight and Analytics team, working within our Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) department. You'll join us on a fixed term contract for up to 12 months working 37 hours per week, in return you will receive a competitive salary of £35,745.00 - £38,223.00 (gross) per annum.

The role is based at our Service Headquarters in Exeter but there may be the possibility of hybrid working for the successful candidate as agreed with the hiring manager.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the large-scale digital transformation of the Fire Service. We are radically transforming the way the Fire Service operates with its technology to enable data driven decision making.

Working as part of the Insight and Analytics Team within the Digital, Data and Technology department, you will be responsible for utilising reporting technologies such as PowerBI and SSRS to provide information and data back into the service to help inform decision making and transform the way we work to keep our staff and the public safe.

The successful candidate will have the following qualities:

Understanding of data, data visualisation and analysis across a broad range of subject areas such as, but not limited to
Power BI, including its use within a Microsoft 365 environment
Databases and querying them (SQL)
Geospatial data and tooling (GIS)
ETL process and tooling
Understanding of data manipulation in languages such as Python
An understanding of data science and opportunities for its application in public sector

Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to explain key concepts to individuals with varying levels of experience and understanding

The ability to liaise and engage effectively with staff across the organisation

What we are looking for in the ideal candidate:

Demonstrable experience and knowledge in data visualisation, self-service business reporting and analytic tool(s), e.g. PowerBI and SSRS
Experience of Data Analysis techniques and methodologies.
Displays original thinking and creativity; meets challenges with resourcefulness; generates suggestions for improvement; develops innovative approaches and ideas
Demonstrable experience of working effectively at a practitioner level within a data and information reporting function.

Extensive experience in the utilisation and management of structured and geospatial data.
