Oxford City + NE Adult mental health team are leading the way locally having created a team of occupational therapists and experienced support staff to provide mental health reablement interventions. This team provides short, intensive, activation focussed interventions to support service users to increase, reconnect to, or initiate activities of meaning to support recovery from a period of mental health distress.
The team is embedded in the AMHT working alongside the core delivery provided by MDT key workers, team managers and the medical team to support service user recovery.
Part of the role is collecting evidence to support the local evaluation of the reablement model using a combination of patient reported outcome measures, wellbeing scales and occupational therapy assessments. You will contribute to collecting the evidence for the impact of the intervention for service user recovery alongside providing wider evidence for the effectiveness of occupational therapists in community mental health.
Main duties of the job
The Band 6 Reablement Occupational Therapist will:
- provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment interventions.
- lead the ‘recovery through activity’ group program
- carry a complex caseload as a member of the MDT
- supervise members of the team
- support the development of the occupational therapy service provision within the setting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Mental health reablement teams offer short, intensive, activation focussed interventions to support service users to increase, reconnect to, or initiate activities of meaning to support recovery from a period of mental health distress. The team delivery consists of specialist occupational therapy assessment followed by group and 1:1 intervention in peoples own homes and communities.The team consists of qualified Occupational Therapists and skilled support staff who deliver up to 4 contacts per week for a maximum of 12 weeks.
The role of the Band 6 Reablement Occupational Therapist is to provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment interventions for the specified service user group, carry a complex caseload as a member of the MDT, supervise members of the team, and support the development of the occupational therapy service provision within the setting.

Person specification
Qualifications and training
Essential criteria- OT degree
- HCPC registration
- Further training relevant to the role
- APPLE or equivalent student placement training
- Sensory training
- Trained in use of specific models/assessment relevant to the role
Experience
Essential criteria- Substantial post qualification experience
- Experience of working with the mental health service users in a variety of settings
- Experience working with a range of standardised and non-standardised OT assessments
- Experience of working collaboratively with carers to meet both the needs of the carer and the user
- Groupwork experience
- Experience of supervising and developing staff
- Experience of undertaking audit work/using outcome measures
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Understanding of Model of Human Occupation and it's application
- Knowledge of barriers to occupational engagement
- Understanding of the recovery model
