Position: Teacher of English – Whole School Literacy Lead

Salary: MPS/UPS including Outer London Allowance plus TLR

The successful candidate will also be an enthusiastic and creative English teacher with a passion for their subject and a commitment to high quality teaching; they will have excellent subject knowledge and commitment to continually develop it.

You will be passionate about high standards of literacy and know and understand how to raise literacy standards across the school.

We are looking for someone with an in-depth understanding of current literacy research to strategically lead whole school literacy improvement. They will work alongside HoDs, HoYs and SLT, as well as running literacy interventions as needed.

Each member of our English department is seen as an integral part of the team, working together sharing ideas and developing resources cohesively. The successful candidate will have the capacity to bring innovative ideas to the classroom and show a strong record of raising student attainment through their teaching.

Our next team member will:

  • Teach from KS3 to A Level in, ideally, both Language and Literature
  • Use creativity to develop rich and exciting lessons to cater for all pupils
  • Strategically lead literacy across the school based on current literacy research

The English Department is a strong department that is well respected within our school. The department believe in mixed ability teaching at all levels from KS3 up to KS5. We have a history of strong examination results at GCSE and A Level in both English Language and English Literature.
For the past three years, the Department has been focusing on developing an innovative KS3 curriculum that prepares pupils for the demands of the strengthened GCSE and broadens their understanding, and enjoyment of Literature and Language. To further enrich pupils’ experience of English, we offer a variety of visits and extra-curricular clubs.

We pride ourselves on working together as a team, planning collaboratively and supporting each other in every aspect of day-to-day teaching and learning.
