Locum Consultant Radiologist with an Interest in Breast and Imaging

This post will be primarily based at the University Hospital site and will involve involve 10 programmed activities (10 PA), with 1.5 SPA. Suitably experienced candidates will be able to take part on the Body Consultant on call rota and will contribute to provision of Breast symptomatic and screening diagnostics.
The primary duties of this post will be to provide specialist Breast and General Imaging support including clinics, procedures, reporting sessions and participation in multi-disciplinary meetings (MDTs), as specified above. The department is seeking flexible candidates who will support and meet service needs.
All Radiologists participate in some plain film and cross-sectional imaging reporting, with additional interests as agreed in the individual job plan. The post holder will be expected to hold appropriate Royal College of Radiology qualifications or equivalent.
In addition to: Provide, and develop further with clinical colleagues services in Breast and General Imaging, in line with the expectations of the Department and Trust. Provide a consultation and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust, referring Acute Trusts and Primary Care.
Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty. Develop and maintain good communications with colleagues at referring Trusts, General Practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice. Ensure own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and participating in the Trusts Performance and Annual Appraisal system and GMC revalidation.
Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers. Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures. All consultant radiologists will participate in an on call rota and work towards seven day working in the future.
There are 2 Specialist Trainees who are resident first on call every evening and 1 Specialist Trainee on site overnight. The weekends and bank holidays are covered in a similar fashion, with 2 Specialist Trainees on site during the day and one Specialist Trainee overnight.
However there is an expectation that consultants provide significant support to the trainees in the form of advice and primary and secondary reports out of hours, during evenings, weekends and bank holidays. This is reflected in the consultant job plan and on call PA allocation.
As part of our status as the main teaching hospital for Warwick Medical School all new appointments will have the opportunity to contribute to medical student teaching. Significant contributions to undergraduate teaching are recognised through additional SPA, usually in the form of specific roles that can be applied for Postgraduate teaching may include the direct supervision of Specialist Registrar lists and participation in various teaching programmes for Registrars.

The combined teaching commitment is recognised through 0.5 SPA for teaching for new consultants. For more information on this role, please kindly refer to the job description and person specification.
