Job overview

Contributes to the work and development of Department of Nutrition & Dietetics at UHNM. The post will include a range of clinical duties as a dietitian in the acute care setting, including inpatients and outpatient clinics. The post holder will participate in audit, service evaluation and student training.

The post will be reviewed through the Personal Development Plan or more often according to the needs of the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics and the post holder.

Main duties of the job

Works to HCPC registration standards for dietitians as a registered dietitian.

Delivers specialised dietetic services to acute care patients, using a wide range of appropriate and sensitive communication skills and behaviour change techniques

Works in a variety of settings which may include clinics, health centres, inpatient wards including frail elderly and various care settings to provide dietetic care to a wide range of patients

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Delivers specialised dietetic services to acute care patients, using a wide range of appropriate and sensitive communication skills and behaviour change techniques.

Works in a variety of settings which may include clinics, health centres, inpatient wards including frail elderly and various care settings to provide dietetic care to a wide range of patients.

Be involved in decisions with regard to enteral feeding, supplementation, modified textured diets which could involve contributing to the multidisciplinary team decisions to feed.

Attends key meetings as requested and feeds back as required for example to Patients, members of the MDT teams, dietitians, student dietitians and clerical staff, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Ward Nurses and Nurse managers and Matrons, concerning patient treatments and progress with dietary regimens.

To plan, prioritise and provide dietetic services to a range of acute care locations and specified clinics and liaise with colleagues across the health economy.

Provides education sessions to qualified staff and lay groups such as volunteers or Health Panel members.

Keeps accurate and detailed records with regard to patients as required both internally and with other services.

Input into team meetings and support of student colleagues.

Contributes to the training of student dietitians, including planning.

Essential Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered dietitian (with relevant BSc, postgraduate diploma or masters)
  • Health Care Professions Council registration
  • Member of British Dietetic Association (BDA)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working within the NHS

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Undergraduate or equivalent dietetic experience in a wide range of professional practice areas
  • Demonstrate excellent organisational, time management, planning, leadership and supervisory skills
  • Evidence of good time management and ability to manage own caseload
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to support preregistration practice training for student dietitians
  • Demonstrate competence in presentation skills and interactive teaching
