The Milton Keynes 0-19 Universal Children’s Service are seeking to employ a Part Time working Term Time only enthusiastic Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to work mainly within the 5-19 School Nursing Team.

The post holder will work as part of the 0 - 19 Children’s Universal Health Service delivering preventative services for children, young people and their families. They will achieve equity of health outcomes for the local population through the provision of an evidence based and needs led service.

The post holder will undertake screening of children including vision, hearing, and growth monitoring in accordance with national school screening programmes and also complete delegated work in relation to clinical need. There will be a requirement to undertake other clinical duties across the 0-19 age range as required; this may include support at child health clinics and other health promotion activities and events.

Duties will take place in a variety of locations, including schools, community buildings and client homes.

The post holder will undertake administrative duties to support screening and other work as required by the service.

Interviews will be taken place in a face to face setting.

  • Plan and arrange screening sessions within schools to ensure that the designated work is completed within the set timescales of the school year.
  • Action and complete annual screening programmes by carrying out hearing and visual acuity screening and weighing and measuring children in schools.
  • Complete ad hoc screening and growth monitoring; this may be in clients homes or other community settings.
  • Ensure that all repeat tests are completed within timescales and referrals to other professionals are made according to guidelines.
  • Assist the School Nursing / 0 – 19 Team, with public health promotion activities including delivering presentations, health fairs and health promotion in schools and the wider community to individuals and groups.
  • To be a flexible and supportive member of the team and provide appropriate cover as and when required.
  • Work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • To carry out other duties to meet the demands of the service as required: this includes assisting at baby clinics and growth monitoring where required.
  • To be aware of the confidential nature of the workload and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Work within Milton Keynes Safeguarding Children code of practice and procedures.
  • Report and refer any concern regarding safeguarding or child protection to the relevant agency, School Nurse or Safeguarding Lead.
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of infection control relating to clinical practice.

  • Create information packs where required for the service wide universal offer.
  • Organise screening sessions including liaising with schools to arrange dates and times, booking rooms, sending out appointments, liaising with clients and typing letters.
  • Complete and send referrals to other services including Audiology, Orthoptists and weight management services.
  • Creating, updating and maintenance of electronic clinical records in line with Information Governance and service and clinical system guidance.
  • Creating and maintaining spreadsheets.
  • General administrative tasks such as typing, scanning, photocopying and printing etc.
  • Order, organise and actively promote health promotion displays in line with national campaigns.
  • Assist the service in the organisation and delivery of health promotion activities.• Attending and participating in team meetings.
  • Participating in supervision and annual appraisals which will help you to reflect on your work, understand your objectives and monitor your progress towards achieving them.
  • Participating in Safeguarding and Clinical Supervision in accordance with Trust requirements
  • Attend all mandatory training as required by the Trust.
  • Using continuing professional development to consolidate, update or improve clinical skills.
  • Demonstrating excellent communications skills.
  • Maintaining at all times, a professional manner and appearance.
