Applications are invited from highly motivated individuals for a Medical Laboratory Assistant post in the department of Blood Sciences at Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust.
The department provides a wide range of analytical, diagnostic and interpretative service to hospitals, clinics and GP practices.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be required to undertake basic laboratory tasks which include specimen reception, keyboard entry of data into the laboratory management system and preparation of laboratory materials.
Working in the specimen reception area you will be responsible for ensuring that the samples received into the department are recorded and prepared appropriately. You will also triage requests ensuring that urgent work is fast tracked appropriately.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria- GCSE in Science, Maths and English
- Experience working in a laboratory enviroment
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria- Ability to follow written procedures
- Familiarity and use of computers
- Work within healthcare environment in recent years
- Work carried out to meet specific deadlines
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to plan and prioritise own work
- Ability to define and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to accurately and legibly transcribe information
- Ability to identify personal requirements which are needed to maintain effective relationships with colleagues and service users
- Ability to evaluate self in terms of relationships with other people and a flexible approach to working patterns and hours
