Occupational Therapy Department.
We are looking for a highly motivated Band 3 OT Clinical Support Worker to join the Hospital Division Occupational and Arts Therapy Team.
Main duties of the job
You will work under the supervision of a senior occupational therapist, to undertake a range of delegated clinical and administrative duties to contribute to the assessment, treatment and care of service users within the acute in-patient services.
This role will include contributing to the therapeutic group programme, both on and off site, taking a lead in facilitating access to community football and tennis groups and support for multi-disciplinary team. You will carry out planned treatment interventions with individuals and contribute to unit wide social activities.
Training will be provided and post holders will be expected to participate in their own skill development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical/Practice- To follow plans of care and undertake a range of allocated duties related to direct or indirect service user support and care.
ii) To care for the service users physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural and recreational needs within a defined programme of health care and to ensure that service users are treated with respect and their dignity is maintained at all times.
iii) To encourage service users to accept an optimum level of responsibility for their individual programme of care and with their consent, where appropriate, seek the co-operation of carers, relatives and friends.
iv) To observe and report any changes in the service users wellbeing as well as undertake any routine observations that may be required for physical health management.- To maintain timely and accurate service user records under supervision and in line with Trust and service line policy and procedure.
vi) To converse with service users and their carers and relatives in a positive and respectful manner, ascertaining their needs and assisting them as appropriate.
vii) To contribute to the assessment of service users health and social care needs by participating in assessment processes including: assisting in initial data collection; monitoring of patients progress; as well as being able to report back clearly at any team care reviews.
viii) To contribute towards the ongoing quality of service and care and identifies any risk issues in relation to the service users’ health and social care. Promptly informing the team or supervisor if there are any:
- any changes in the service users’ physical condition or mental state;
- any significant factors relevant to the service user;
- any incidents related to the service user;
- To support others in the delivery of a range of identified psychological interventions i.e. CBT or psycho-education as per individual plans of care.
xi) To recognise and respond appropriately to challenging behaviour in line with Trust policies.
xii) To undertake a range of allocated tasks that assist in the organisation of the day to day smooth running of the service, reporting in a timely manner any issues relating to the fabric or condition of the clinical environment.
xiii) To understand and follow the Trust’s risk assessment policy- including being aware of the need to follow all safeguarding procedures.
xiv) To have an awareness of Mental Health Law, including the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), the Community treatment legislation, the Care Programme Approach (1995), the Mental Capacity Act (2005).
xv) To be aware of personal accountability and responsibility for the maintenance of the clinical environment and to follow infection control policies.
xvi) To adhere to area, service line and Trust Policy relevant to patient / service user care and conduct of own role.
xvii) To be able to work and travel across a geographical area or across integrated teams
xviii) Under the direction of the team manager to actively contribute to clinical or governance reviews of the teams activity and the monitoring of performance
xviiii) To participate in relevant audit, practice development, research activity that may be taking place in the work area.
