Overall Job Purpose:

To support the department’s Compliance and Risk Management activities across all jurisdictions, providing technical, professional, and organisational support to the team.

Requirements

Monitoring
  • Lead certain monitoring reviews and support on others including assisting the Head of Compliance with engagement and research.
  • Oversee outstanding recommendations from reviews, following up where necessary.
  • Provide input to the annual Compliance Monitoring Plan.
  • Produce reports in good time for all relevant committee meetings.
Regulatory developments & advice
  • Conduct regular horizon scanning via websites, emails, circulars, and other correspondence issued by Steamship’s regulators across the globe, sharing results with the Head of Compliance and/or other parties as appropriate.
  • Summarise regulatory developments to share with team members, other staff and/or with the Compliance Committee where relevant or when requested by the Head of Compliance.
Regulatory engagement
  • Support compliance with the Senior Managers and Certification Regime including CONNECT submissions, statements of responsibilities and responsibility maps.
  • Assist with general regulatory enquiries including the completion of surveys and waivers.
  • Attend meetings with regulators, taking notes or minutes as appropriate, ensuring actions are tracked to completion.
Compliance Committee
  • Assemble papers for Compliance Committee meetings, liaising with colleagues across Steamship’s offices.
  • Arrange Compliance Committee preparatory meetings, ensuring attendees are available.
  • Attend Compliance Committee meetings, presenting updates and capturing action points.
  • Maintain the Compliance Calendar, following up on items occurring between meetings.
Risk Management
  • Assist in the administration of Steamship’s Risk Register.
  • Follow up on Risk Control Attestations, Risk Events and actions arising from the Risk Management Operations Committee (“RMOC”).
  • Attend Risk Review meetings, making notes and following up with Risk owners regarding changes to their Risks and/or controls.
  • Produce reports/report summaries for Risk Management and to management committees as required.
  • Assist with assembling papers for the RMOC including the Risk Register, Risk Event Reports, and other papers as appropriate.
General
  • Produce an overview of policy changes ahead of each applicable Board meeting.
  • Provide other administrative support to the Chief Risk Officer as and when required.
  • Maintain awareness of new regulations and their likely impact on a P&I Club.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties within the capabilities of the postholder that are relevant to the job and reasonably requested by the Head of Compliance or Chief Risk Officer.

Person Specification:

  • Experience gained within a financial services or law firm.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Highly organised, capable of using initiative, prioritising workload according to team expectations, and preparing in advance.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken), able to collaborate with internal stakeholders at all levels.
  • Appreciation of the need to align regulatory standards with commercial considerations.
  • Adept in the extraction of relevant data from search engines, regulatory websites, and other data sources.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programmes: Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
