Consultant in Paediatrics and Neonatology (Cardiology)
Job overview
The Trust is seeking to appoint a full time (10 PA) acute On-Call Consultant Paediatrician with an interest/expertise in Cardiology.
The Consultant will be expected to work with the Clinical Director in Paediatrics and other Consultants to promote the highest standards in Paediatric medical care. They will be expected to:
- Be enthusiastic to develop the service and promote improved multi-disciplinary and multi-agency services for children
- Promote the team approach to children’s care, having due regard for the linking of acute, community, social, education and voluntary services.
- Partake in Consultant appraisal and revalidation
- Prior agreement to undertake any Supporting Professional Agreement activities elsewhere must be obtained from the Clinical Director.
- Be the lead Local Paediatric Consultant for Cardiology with the help of tertiary centre GOSH.
We have regular student placements from Southampton and Physicians Associates from the University of Surrey. The post-holder will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a license to practice and be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of attaining your CCT at the interview stage.
Main duties of the job
This post consists of a mixture of outpatient and inpatient activity with the latter organised to improve consultant presence in the hospital outside office hours. Outpatient work will depend on the special interest of the successful applicant.Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work less than full-time or in a job-share capacity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder will be based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. Outreach clinics currently take place in Cranleigh. Prior agreement to undertake any Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) elsewhere must be obtained from the Clinical Director for Paediatrics.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Full registration and a Licence to practice with the GMC
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register Paediatrics via: CCT or Portfolio Pathway
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- Higher medical qualification
- Fully trained Specialist in Cardiology
- Teaching/Education Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria- Broad general Paediatric experience

- Management, Leadership and Initiative skills
