Research Post Award Finance and Project Manager
The Role and Department
We are looking for an experienced Team Leader to join our Post Award section within Research and Innovation Services (RIS). The Research Operations Post Award section is responsible for providing overarching support and quality assurance for research, knowledge exchange and expert services Post-Award finance-related activity, including financial management for live grants; provision of live grant information to grant holders and senior management; financial reporting to funders and other external bodies; and support in the management of studentships and grant administration.
You will have the following key responsibilities;- Line manage a team of 5 Post Award Finance and Project Officers providing advice and guidance on University procedures and pastoral care.
- Provide training to new and existing staff members as appropriate and mentor team members to ensure a thorough understanding of university financial regulations, research related policies and external funders.
- Monitor and coordinate the performance and workload for the Post Award team, planning cover to ensure smooth service provision through peaks and troughs.
- Provide advice, and lead on, complex or high-risk awards.
- Provide a senior check, where appropriate, of the team's work to ensure accurate calculations and reporting. procedures and pastoral care.
- Develop and deliver training sessions to relevant university staff on Post-Award procedures.
- Contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of new policies and quality standards, procedures and systems for the post award management of Durham's externally funded research activities to ensure effective working and continuous improvement.
- Actively participate in regional and national networks and working groups to represent Durham and share best practice across the sector in research project management, ensuring that Durham is actively engaged in relevant consultations and well positioned to understand and, where appropriate, influence funder policy.
The University is currently offering hybrid working, which means you will have flexibility around working arrangements. Currently you would need to come into the office a minimum of twice a week. You can work in the office on additional days of the week if you choose.
