Job overview
Are you a highly motivated, caring and proactive person who is interested in working within an Acute Orthopaedic Hospital setting.
We have a part time Band 3 Orthopaedic and General Surgery Occupational Therapy Assistant post at the Conquest Hospital.
You will need to be flexible in your approach, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The team is supported by Team Lead Occupational Therapists who we are actively committed to continuing professional development through clinical supervision and training.
Main duties of the job
To undertake specific skilled support work to aid in the rehabilitation and safe discharge of patients.
To assess, prescribe and provide appropriate equipment to increase patient independence and safety.
To manage own caseload as delegated by the Occupational Therapist. To be responsible for monitoring patient progression and make minor alterations to patient treatment programme as required.
To assist the Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists with complex cases that requires two people to treat.
To work unsupervised and at times lone working; reporting back on patient progress and informing the Occupational Therapist of any problems.
To assist in the induction of new assistant staff, students and rotational Junior Occupational Therapists.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Educated to GCSE with English and Maths
- NVQ3 in direct care or a therapy discipline or proven equivalent knowledge and experience
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience in patient / client care
- Ability to communicate and work with patients
- NHS or Social Services Experience.
- Experience within Therapy Setting.
Skills
Essential criteria- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under own initiative where required
- Good organisational skills.
- Understanding of Occupational Therapy
- Flexible with effective time management skills.
- Ability to work with individuals or in groups.
- Basic IT and keyboard skills
- Awareness of Health and Safety Issues
