Grateley House School is a day/residential school for children and young people aged 11-19 with a diagnosis of autism and other associated needs.

We are seeking a dynamic, committed, and innovative leader to take on the role of Personal Development Lead with a teaching responsibility for PSHCE. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape our Personal Development curriculum while also delivering high-quality Skills Based Learning and Social Skills lessons.

The school follows the National Curriculum and students are supported to access a range of subjects by specialist subject teachers and teaching assistants, with input from a therapy team. The successful candidate will ensure that our students engage in learning and are given all the tools they need to progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading the development and delivery of the PSHCE and Citizenship curriculum, ensuring it aligns with safeguarding priorities, the local context, and whole-school strategic objectives.
  • Fostering a culture of aspiration by embedding British Values and the teaching of Protected Characteristics.
  • Collaborating with staff and external agencies to provide outstanding personal development opportunities for students, including work experience and extracurricular activities.
  • Leading and coordinating PSHCE, Social Skills and Skills Based Learning lessons in line with the school curriculum, engaging students and ensuring inclusivity.
  • Leading and coordinating the Personal Development Programme, including oversight of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Forest Schools Programme.
  • Supporting the Assistant Head of Education in developing strong partnerships with local colleges and other educational providers to raise student aspirations.
What We Are Looking For
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a relevant subject.
  • Experience teaching PSHCE with a commitment to improving student outcomes.
  • Leadership experience in curriculum development or a similar capacity is desirable.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and the PSHE curriculum, with a commitment to student well-being and personal development.
  • A proven ability to assess and evaluate the impact of the curriculum and adapt it to meet the needs of all students.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • A commitment to whole-school values and working collaboratively to support student development.
  • Have experience of working with young people with special educational needs and learning disabilities.
