We are looking for two highly motivated, enthusiastic, and hardworking individuals to become part of the Pharmacy workforce at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This is an exciting pan hospital training program spanning two years. This will give you a fantastic overview and experience of the Pharmacy Technician role in a specialised and supportive hospital setting.

The post is for a 2-year, fixed term contract for a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) Apprentice. Individuals will complete a GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council) accredited / recognised qualification resulting in the post holder being able to register with the GPhC as a qualified Pharmacy Technician.

As an Apprentice you will be supported by not only a dedicated Pharmacy Tutor and College Tutor but also the wider award-winning Apprenticeship Team.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to participate in a rotational training programme. These rotations include Patient Services, Outpatient Pharmacy, Medicines Management, Stores/Procurement, and Medicines Information.

You will work in an environment that will support children, young people, and their families with their medications, managing the supply of medicines and assisting Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

You will need to demonstrate that you are patient focused, have good interpersonal and communication skills, be a quick learner, keen to get involved and be committed to the training programme. The ability to cope with the discipline of studying whilst working as part of a team throughout this busy department is essential, therefore a professional approach is key.

  • 4 GCSE’s or equivalent grade 4 (C) or above including English, Maths & a Science
  • Able to commit to a two year training program and able to undertake college work outside working hours

Experience/Knowledge

  • Experience of working in a customer service role
  • Experience of direct working with the public
  • Numerate
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services Skill or relevant experience
  • Experience of working within a hospital environment
