Job overview
The successful candidate will provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and rehabilitation for stroke and neuro rehab patients within The Rowan Rehab ward at Yeatman Hospital in Sherborne. This is the specialist rehab ward for west Dorset, taking patients from Dorset County Hospital and Yeovil hospital acute stroke units.
The Therapy team at Rowan Rehab form part of the Dorset County Hospital therapy team and there will be an expectation to come across to DCH for supervision and to ensure strong working links with the acute therapy team.
Main duties of the job
This post will offer the opportunity to demonstrate and develop highly specialist skills in the management and rehabilitation of stroke and neuro patients fully embracing the benefits of high quality therapeutic relationships across teams.
You will have the opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities, which will include developing and leading on the operational management and service delivery for the Occupational Therapy team. You will be working alongside an established team of Physiotherapists, Dietitians, Speech & Language Therapists and Therapy Support Workers and will be encouraged to take an active role in current projects, including service development and evaluation, internal and external training, student supervision, audit and research review

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsible for providing clinical assessment, rehabilitation and leadership to create and promote a highly specialised Stroke and Neurological Occupational Therapy service.
To participate in daily operational activities including management, planning, implementation and direction of the occupational therapy service in conjunction with other B7 OTs and the Head of Occupational Therapy.To provide professional support to qualified staff, students and support staff.
To be involved in the strategic planning and policy development for the service.
To ensure clinical effectiveness of therapy intervention incorporating evidence based practice and professional standard
Person specification
Education and qualifications
Essential criteria- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Evidence of masters level study relevant to Stroke/Neurology
- Registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Health Professions Council
- Evidence of other relevant and recent CPD/training
- Member of Special Interest Group
- Undertaken appropriate managerial/leadership training
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria- Senior OT experience
- Evidence of team leadership experience
- Inpatient stroke/neuro experience
- Appropriate level of awareness of stroke guidelines and national policy direction
- Service Improvement experience, including ability to work with complex data, such as SSNAP
- Evidence of engagement with regional networks /other partners (Community Trust, social services
- Community Stroke Rehabilitation Experience
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria- Ability to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner.
- Ability to keep accurate and legible clinical notes.
- Ability to demonstrate clear depth of clinical reasoning and knowledge of OT assessment and interventions relating to this specialty, commensurate with Band 7 level.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritising case load effectively
- To show an understanding of clinical governance and its implication for the Occupational Therapy Service.
- Experience in completing local, regional, national projects
- Evidence of supporting team members
- Car driver / owner with access for work use (community rotation stroke role)
- Ability to contribute to weekend working
- Prior involvement in Stroke research (NIHR portfolio)
