Band 2 Ward Clerk (General Surgical Unit) - Full Time / Part Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward clerk to join our busy admin team within the General Surgical Unit.

Full Time / Part Time hours considered.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can work both well within a team and can also demonstrate the ability to use own initiative.

The role of a ward clerk requires good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work on own initiative.

Main duties of the job
  • To answer calls in a polite manner, ensuring all relevant messages are relayed to the appropriate team.
  • Greet all visitors to the ward in a helpful and polite manner.
  • To assist with any enquiries.
  • Maintain accurate patient records including admission, transfer and discharge information on the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record system.
  • To organise patient porters and transport bookings.
  • To participate in ensuring ward cleanliness and tidiness.
  • Maintain stock/supplies in accordance with ward requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide a reception service, acting as first point of contact on the telephone or face-to-face, for patients, visitors and other healthcare professionals.

To facilitate good communication with other wards and departments involved in patient care or ward/departmental functioning.

To input data regarding all admissions, transfers and discharges onto our electronic patient record (EPR) system.

To provide an efficient administration and clerical service to the ward staff, visitors and patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE standard (Maths & English) or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Conversant with EPR (Electronic Patient Record)
  • Previous administrative experience in an unsupervised capacity
  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment
