We welcome applicants to apply for a vacancy in Oncology as the Directorate Support Manager within the Cancer Directorate. You will manage and provide leadership for the administrative team in Oncology, working alongside Consultants, Clinicians and the administrative team to ensure patient pathways are optimised, maintain efficiencies within Oncology outpatient clinics and provide effective management of the administrative team and its processes.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for managing defined service areas within the Oncology department, but the primary focus will be the management of the patient tracking list (PTL) and maintaining of RTT targets within Oncology and ensuring that the outpatient clinic capacity is optimised to accommodate the varying demand across all the different cancer sites.

You will also be responsible for the leadership and management of the administrative teams within Oncology clinics, Medical secretarial support and the Oncology day unit.

You will support the planning, development and implementation of service improvement across Oncology, and deputise for the Oncology Deputy operations manager - as well as providing support and cross cover with the other DSMs within the cancer directorate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First Degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Recognised management qualification.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in health service management.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing a clinical, social or equivalent service.
  • Success in working collaboratively across professions and services.
  • Demonstrable success in planning and managing demand and capacity.
  • Budgetary management experience
  • Significant experience of managing a workforce
Desirable criteria
  • Audit experience.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • The importance of successful partnership working.

  • Strong knowledge of NHS targets especially Cancer waits, 18 weeks and A&E 4 hour waits.
