Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

Location: Plymouth and surrounding areas
Contract: Full-Time, Starting September
Pay: £90-100 per day

Hours: 08:30am to 15:30pm

Role:

We are currently seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join fantastic SEN schools in Plymouth, committed to providing environments where kindness, respect, and individual growth are at the heart of everything they do. In this role, you will be working directly within Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools that pride themselves on offering tailored support to pupils with a wide range of learning and developmental needs.

The schools focus on delivering high-quality teaching and learning through broad and engaging curricula designed to meet the unique needs of each student. They offer nurturing environments that enable every pupil to develop their identity, achieve academic success, and experience personal growth at their own pace.

You will be part of a team that excels in offering expert safeguarding and has a flexible, child-centred approach. Working closely with both the teaching staff and families, their schools foster positive relationships to help build self-esteem and resilience among students, empowering them to become confident, caring, and successful citizens.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with children with SEN and who wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable young people. You will play a vital role in helping pupils navigate their learning journey, enabling them to develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive in school and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 or group support for students with various SEN needs, ensuring their learning experience is engaging, inclusive, and positive.
  • Supporting students in overcoming challenges both academically and socially, contributing to their personal growth and independence.
  • Working closely with teachers to deliver tailored lesson plans and strategies to meet the specific needs of each child.
  • Assisting with behaviour management strategies and helping create a safe, supportive environment for all students.
  • Building strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents to promote collaboration and ensure the well-being of every child.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEN, either on a 1:1 basis or in a classroom setting.
  • Passion for supporting SEN children and making a positive impact on their lives.
  • Flexibility, patience, and a proactive attitude toward meeting individual learning needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to a full-time role and long-term development in SEN education.
  • Previous experience in education is preferred, but transferable skills from roles in care or support work will also be considered.
  • A valid driving licence is desirable, but not essential.

Benefits:

  • Impactful Work: Help children with SEN discover their potential and thrive in a supportive, caring environment.
  • Personal and Professional Growth: Join a passionate team of professionals dedicated to providing the best education and care for every child.
  • Supportive Environment: Work in schools that place high importance on building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues to foster an environment of mutual respect.
  • Training and Development: Opportunities for ongoing professional development and training within SEN education.
