About the Role

Nottingham City Council are looking to appoint Children’s Residential Social Care Workers at Crocus Fields short breaks unit for children and young people with disabilities. Crocus Fields offers care to young people who have severe learning disabilities and physical disabilities, many of whom are on the autistic spectrum, and who may exhibit significant challenges in management of their behaviour.

You will work a shift pattern on a rota that you will have one month in advance. This will include working shifts such as 2pm -10pm with some sleep-in duty’s / 7am to 2.30pm.

The role requires an ability to:

  • To give essential and personal care to children and young people with autism and learning or physical disabilities.
  • To establish positive relationships with the young people, assessing needs and risk. Working jointly in preparation, implementation, delivery and revision of care plans.
  • To ensure that the physical, emotional, religious, educational and psychological needs of children and young people are met.
  • To support young people to access activities in and out of the unit.
  • To support young people with their medical and all round health needs. This includes administration of medication.
  • To ensure a high standard of supervision and support is provided, to assist children and young people with Autism and learning disabilities.
  • To facilitate access to appropriate life opportunities to children and young people with Autism and learning/physical disabilities that promotes the growth of the individual and inclusion.

About You

The ideal candidate will :

  • Have relevant personal or work experience of caring for children, young people or vulnerable adults with disabilities.
  • Have an awareness of the social, cultural, emotional and physical developmental needs of children
  • Be able to work as a team member and on your own initiative.
  • Be able to use varied communication methods well, including verbal, written and electronically.
  • Be willing to complete the level three diploma in residential care with in two years of commencing employment.
  • A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
