You will be working as part of the Cardiac Cath Lab in a multi-disciplinary team, delivering and maintaining a high standard of expertise in radiographic imaging technique, exhibiting good organizational skills and patient care. The post holder will also be expected to rotate in main x-ray when required.

The Coronary Angiography Unit consists of two state-of-the-art single plane c-arm cardiac catheter imaging. TheSiemens Artis Q floor mountedand our recently builtPhilips Azurion 7M12 ceiling suspendedlinked to a hospital wideMcKESSONdata image management.

The daily throughput of work consists of booked elective, routine and emergency ward angiograms and PCIs with the aid of OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and IVUS (Intra-Vascular Ultrasound) medical imaging technology, rotablation procedure, shockwave intravascular lithotripsy, and CTO procedures.

The department also runs an active 24/7 primary PCI service covering the South Central network. Thus, the team provide a dedicated out of hours on-call commitment in order to provide 24 hour cover for PCI service. In addition, the lab regularly carries out the implantation of devices ranging from pacemaker insertions to the more complex Bi Ventricular defibrillators.

We also provide electrophysiological studies and ablation.

  • To provide a high quality and efficient Imaging service in all areas of the Cardiac Catheter Laboratories and Radiology main x-ray.
  • To maintain the high standards of the department by contributing to individual and team objectives.
  • To participate in the 24/7 pPCI, emergency pacing, etc. on-call
  • Responsible for maintaining IR(ME)R compliance, interpret protocols and assess the justification of radiographic requests.

  • Deputise for the Lead Radiographer in their absence, including helping to maintain the smooth running of the lab and to play an active role in managing the patient workload.
  • To work alongside cardiologists, cardiac physiologists, and cardiac nurses as part of a multi-disciplinary team to maximise the daily elective and emergency work.
  • Ensure that image quality is of a high standard.
  • To set and maintain standards of appearance and professional attitude.
  • Comply with the Trust radiation protection measures and report any untoward incident to the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS).
  • Ensure correct working of all equipment. All equipment faults or changes in operational behaviour should be reported to the manufacturer and to the Lead Radiographer.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness within the cardiac catheter department.
  • To assist and participate in the quality assurance program within the department.
  • To exercise all reasonable care and precautions to minimise risk to patients, staff, and members of the public.
  • To be prepared and participate in the provision of 24/7 primary PCI on-call rota.
  • To work in accordance with all Safe Systems of Work, Local Rules and adhere to all departmental protocols.
  • To be fully acquainted with the IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR17 Legislation.
  • To be aware of the Health and Safety Policy and of all the other trust policies and their location. Perform such other duties as may be required at the discretion of the Lead Radiographer and Catheter Lab Manager.
  • Take responsibility for any stock monitoring and ordering, and informing the catheter lab manager, lead radiographer and in-charge.
  • To complete mandatory trainings and attend appropriate courses including developmental courses at the discretion of the managers.
  • To work as part of rotation in main x-ray when required.
