The successful applicant will be part of the Paediatric Occupational Therapy team, based at Provide HQ.

Our children’s centre is based at Stapleford House in Chelmsford. We are able to offer, where appropriate, visits in schools/nurseries and home visits and work in partnership with the child’s wider support network including teaching staff and family/carers.

We are a well established, friendly and dynamic team, committed to offering the best services possible to our clients. The service offers excellent experience with training opportunities, regular supervision and appraisals. We also offer some online services.

The post holder will be offered ADOS training.

Main duties of the job
  • To gain consent and undertake occupational therapy assessment, clinically diagnose, formulate and implement treatment plans using specialist knowledge and experience. This will include the treatment of complex patients in a manner that respects people’s choice, privacy, dignity and individuality
  • To obtain information relevant to patient care, recognising when goals are met or achievable and ensuring appropriate discharge/ongoing care
  • To provide hands on treatment and demonstrate highly developed observational skills for the assessment and therapeutic handling of patients to facilitate movement and the development of physical skills and function. To be able to present treatment programmes and developmentally appropriate play and approaches according to age of the child. To utilise a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate and carry out a programme of care adapted to non-clinical settings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • With knowledge of a wide range of paediatric conditions and treatment modalities to interpret and analyse clinical facts using advanced clinical reasoning and problem solving skills to form accurate diagnoses in a wide range of conditions and recommend the best course of intervention.
  • To interpret non-clinical facts based on a risk assessment incorporating the constant changes encountered in each individual’s circumstances.
  • Making use of outcome measures where available, to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and modify accordinglyTo obtain information relevant to patient care, recognising when goals are met or achievable and ensuring appropriate discharge/ongoing care.
  • To work in any homes, schools or other appropriate setting in line with service requirements.
  • To be able to present treatment programmes and developmentally appropriate play and approaches according to age of the child. To utilise a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate and carry out a programme of care adapted to non-clinical settings
  • To have good knowledge and understanding of children’s services and processes as provided by Health, Education, Social Care and the Voluntary Sector.
  • To assess and provide theray programme for children with ASD and other sensory difficulties
  • To undertake risk assessments for children with regard to manual handling and share with parents/carers and school.

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Car driver with a clean driving licence

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience in a related field of practice
  • Experience of working in a variety of paediatric settings and with children of differing age groups

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc(Hons)occupational therapy or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Health Professions Council
Desirable criteria
  • At least 5 years experience as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist
