Job overview

The GP PCME is responsible for delivery of quality assured education at Programme and Postgraduate School of General Practice levels.

The education will be group based and will be mapped against the curriculum and the needs of the learners.

The postholder will work with the Training Programme Director and other lead educators across the Programme to ensure that each learning experience meets the NHSE standards for training.

The successful candidate will ensure that the organisation of the group learning will be flexible enough to meet the requirements of the learners in their different stages of development and settings.

The post holder is expected to be on the GMC GP Register with a minimum of one year’s experience in general practice post-CCT.

Main duties of the job

To support the TPD and other PCMEs to plan and deliver a balanced programme with a range of learning opportunities for trainees to achieve the requirements of the RCGP GP Curriculum
  • To Develop and facilitate group learning opportunities to meet the needs of a balanced local programme, local Academy or the PGSGP
  • To deliver group learning opportunities to all programme learners at ST1, ST2 and ST3 levels
  • To provide teaching plans for the sessions to enable accurate mapping against the curriculum
  • To create opportunities for the learners to gather evidence of learning for their e-portfolio
  • To record assessments made
  • To collect evaluations of teaching sessions and share with the Programme Director and other PCMEs where appropriate and use to develop the programme
  • To identify any areas of concern regarding learners and to report to the Programme Director and to support the Programme Director in delivery of plans to address concerns.
  • To provide the Programme Director with accurate costings for the teaching programme
  • To maintain an attendance register and support the TPD in attendance management of trainees

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical degree
  • On GMC GP Register with a minimum of one year’s post-CCT experience in the specialty
  • Current licence to practice and fully engaged in annual appraisal and revalidation
  • Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, professional association and/or regulatory body
  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (example: educator courses, Train the Trainer, etc.)
  • On the Medical Performers list and be actively engaged in GP clinical practice.
