Teaching Personnel is seeking strong and ambitious Psychology or Sociology graduates to work as SEN Teaching Assistants in Primary schools in Newport, supporting our young learners.

This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring Educational Psychologist to gain hands-on, paid experience in a school setting!
  • Salary: £420 - £500 a week (dependant on experience and qualifications)
  • Hours: 08:30 - 15:30
  • Location: Newport, South Wales.
  • Start: February/March 2025

As a Psychology/Sociology Graduate, you will join a school as an SEN Teaching Assistant. Your main responsibility will be to support pupils in the classroom, liaising with the teacher, promoting engagement, and working 1:1 with children with educational and health needs.

We offer full-time, part-time, and flexible days to fit around your commitments. As a Teaching Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work in various schools and with children of different ages and abilities.

The role of a teaching assistant can be challenging, so patience, a friendly approach, and a good positivity are required, along with the skills to help children learn and develop to the best of their abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with a range of SEN, fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with SENCOs, therapists, and teachers to implement individualised education plans (IEPs).
  • Utilize your psychological expertise to understand and address the unique learning styles and emotional needs of each student.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance your skills and knowledge in SEN practices.

Experience, Training and Qualifications:

  • Psychology or Sociology Degree
  • Previous experience working with students with SEMH, Autism, or ADHD
  • Good knowledge of supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
