Job overview
Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management Ltd is seeking to recruit 1 Maintenance Assistant, working at The Northumbria Hospital and other sites Trust-Wide as necessary within the needs of the service.
The successful post holder will be involved in the day to day operation and maintenance of all Building/Engineering, life and business-critical services, plant and equipment within all Trust and non-Trust properties within their remit, including some installation work.They will be part of a team of Maintenance Assistants carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance duties as directed by the Maintenance Assistant Supervisor, and Estates Officers. This role will have time dedicated to stores duties , ordering , receipting, stock taking and keeping inventory up to date to allow the smooth operation of the of the department store.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant(s) will already have M&E Building Services experience, in an Estates or similar environment. They must be versatile and be able to handle conflicting priorities with the ability to work under pressure. Prioritising workload according to service and business demand.They will be computer literate, have good technical knowledge and ability, with good verbal and written communication skills. They will also possess good interpersonal skills, allowing them to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel, within and beyond the organisation.
They will be carrying out semi-skilled building and engineering jobs using own initiative, and undertaking unsupervised routine maintenance and minor repair work relevant to attained skills and training, including on domestic type appliances.Storeman duties will be done as part of this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To carry out planned and unplanned maintenance duties on Trust premises as directed by the Estates Officers and Maintenance Assistant Supervisor, and other Senior Managers as required.
Assist tradesmen in engineering and building works as required.
Maintain stores stock control and issue/record all parts issued and stock delivered.
They will be required to participate in the Estates on-call rota and undertake essential out of hours on-call duties, as directed.
A full car driving licence is desirable.

Essential
Essential criteria- City & Guilds Basic Electrical/Mechanical/Plumbing or NVQ Level 2 or demonstrate suitable relevant experience.
- Hold, or be prepared to hold with suitable relevant training, PAT Testing qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
- PAT Electrical Testing Certificate
Other requirements
Essential criteria- Must be able to demonstrate the English language proficiency level required for this post.
- Note: staff must be prepared to work reasonable additional hours and are required to participate in an on call rota which could necessitate them being asked to return to work to deal with emergency situations which could arise out of working hours.
- It is a desirable requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role.
