Contract: Fixed Term – Maternity Cover

The Role

The Person

The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom teacher who can inspire and excite students about their learning. You will have an innovative approach to developing an Art curriculum that is inclusive to all students. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Art and Textiles across the full age and ability range up to and including A Level and will be able to develop enrichment activities across the school.

The ability to work within a team is essential and candidates will be expected to have good art and textiles skills, including working with sewing machines. A sound knowledge and understanding of best practice in the accurate assessment of student work is essential.

Purpose of the Post:
  • To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate
  • To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher/ Form Tutor
  • To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential
  • To contribute to raising standards of student attainment
  • To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth
  • To fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document
  • To meet the expectations set out in the Teachers’ Standards
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school’s plans, curriculum and schemes of work, to students according to their educational needs, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the student in school and elsewhere
  • Assess, record and report on the attendance, learning needs, progress, development and attainment of students and to keep such records as are required, making accurate and productive use of assessment
  • Provide, or contribute to, oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students
  • Ensure that ICT, Literacy, Numeracy and school subject specialism(s) are reflected in the teaching/learning experience of students
  • Undertake a designated programme of teaching
  • Ensure a high quality learning experience for students which meets internal and external quality standards
  • Prepare and update subject materials
  • Use a variety of delivery methods which will stimulate learning appropriate to student needs and demands of the syllabus
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures, and to encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework
  • Undertake assessment of students as requested by external examination bodies, departmental and school procedures
  • Mark, grade and give written/verbal and diagnostic feedback as required
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils
  • Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Qualified Teacher Status within the relevant subject area.
  • Experience of teaching all or most of the age range served by the School (11 – 18).
  • Well qualified in the appropriate subject area and/or participation in relevant in-service courses and/or further professional study.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies
  • A good understanding of how children learn
  • Ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils’ needs 8. Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils
  • Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children
  • Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies
  • Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning
