apartmentHARRIS HILL EXECUTIVE SEARCH placeLondon calendar_month

Harris Hill is excited to partner with Alford House in their search for a dynamic and experienced Director of Youth Work to lead the Club into the future.

Alford House empowers young people aged 8-21 in a safe and inclusive environment. They offer diverse activities and vital support services to help young people achieve their potential and prevent exclusion. As they embark on a transformative chapter, fuelled by a £3m investment in their buildings and a bold new strategic vision, they’re looking for a visionary hands-on Director of Youth Work to lead Alford House into the second half of the 2020s and beyond.

Location: Lambeth, London
Contract: Full time, permanent (some evening and/or weekend work expected where activities require it)

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 (dependant on experience)

The charity has a 2/3-bedroom flat, that could be made available if required. This would then be reflected in the overall package.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing engaging and innovative youth work programmes aligned with young people's interests and needs.
  • Providing guidance, advice, and support to young people on a range of issues, such as education, careers, and personal development.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of youth workers and volunteers, ensuring effective delivery of programmes and services.
  • Identifying and pursuing funding opportunities to support youth programmes, including the writing of compelling grant proposals.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with external partners, including local organisations, schools, and businesses.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of youth work programmes, collecting and analysing data to inform future planning.
  • Managing and controlling the Club’s finances, with the support and assistance of the Board, accountants and bookkeeper.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of all young people, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in youth work, with a strong track record of designing, implementing, and evaluating high-quality youth programs. Experience in generating revenue through fundraising (grant proposals) or partnerships to support youth programs and initiatives is key, alongside excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, and a strong passion for youth empowerment and social justice.
You must have a clear DBS at enhanced level and demonstrate comprehensive understanding of child protection and safeguarding policy, practice and procedures. Crucially, you must be flexible, recognising that the needs of a community of young people do not always fit into a neat 9-5 job.

Experience in managing teams and budgets is crucial and knowledge of local community needs and resources would be also be beneficial.

If you meet the above criteria and are passionate about youth development and are committed to creating positive change in the lives of young people, then please do get in touch!

Please note, applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis and only successful candidates will be contacted with further information.

As leading charity recruitment specialists and a certified B Corp™, Harris Hill is committed to high and ever-improving standards of equitable and inclusive recruitment. We actively welcome applications from all sections of the community regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, sexuality and other protected characteristics.
