Civil/Structure Engineer

VCS engineers have considerable experience in corrosion of embedded metals in concrete and masonry, service life estimation, and corrosion mitigation techniques.
VCS is looking for a hands-on full-time Engineer to join the team. Specific responsibilities will vary according to your experience, training, and certification. You will be expected to complete tasks such as condition assessments/investigations, non-destructive testing, installing and troubleshooting instrumentation, preparing test reports, conducting research activities, and generally supporting other areas of the business as required.In addition, the successful candidate will develop skills in the design of cathodic protection systems including calculations and drawings, cathodic protection quality control, and testing.
Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Materials Engineering discipline.
- One to three years of experience in the following areas:
- working in concrete materials,
- Structural analysis of existing structures
- Condition assessment of reinforced concrete structures
- Concrete repair technologies and techniques
- AutoCAD
- Concrete corrosion and cathodic protection
- Non-Destructive testing of infrastructure
- Ability to use relevant computer applications including Microsoft 365
- Full clean UK driving license.
- The ability to travel, including overnight stays when required.
- The ability to travel with short notice may be required due to client and business expectations.
- Wide variety of on-site project conditions
- Interior and exterior environments including sun exposure, cold temperate and variety of precipitations.
- Working on construction sites at heights, over water, active bridges, and confined space
- When not on-site work will be conducted primarily remotely or from the Birmingham office.
- Standard work hours – 8 am to 5 pm, 40 hours per week
- Some specific fieldwork requires night shift or weekend work due to limitations on access and client needs. This is not typical but does occur. You will be compensated appropriately depending on the situation.
- Additional work as required to meet priorities and deadlines.
