The Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and welfare of children and young people under care. This position is essential in providing oversight and direction to the care planning process, ensuring that children’s needs are effectively met through comprehensive reviews.
As an IRO, you will be responsible for facilitating independent reviews of the care plans for children, ensuring that their voices are heard and their best interests are prioritized. You will work in collaboration with various stakeholders, including social workers, local authorities, and families, to monitor progress and ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
Furthermore, the IRO will have a pivotal role in challenging decision-making processes where necessary, advocating for the child’s rights, and fostering a culture of participation among children and young people. This position requires a strong commitment to safeguarding and improving the lives of children and young people, backed by a thorough understanding of relevant legislation and best practices in child welfare.

Responsibilities
Conducting independent reviews for children in care to assess care plans and progress.
Ensuring that children's voices are represented and heard throughout the review process.
Collaborating with social workers, families, and other stakeholders to gather information for reviews.
Monitoring the effectiveness of care plans and ensuring they meet statutory requirements.
Challenging decisions made by local authorities where necessary to safeguard children's welfare.
Providing expert guidance on relevant legislation and best practices in child welfare.

Preparing detailed reports and documentation following each review meeting.

Requirements
A relevant degree in social work, social care, or equivalent experience in children's services.
Proven experience working with children and young people in a social care setting.
Strong understanding of legislation affecting children in care, including the Children Act.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
Ability to analyze complex situations and make sound judgments.
Strong advocacy skills to represent children's interests and rights.

Pay Per Hour: £31.73
