Skills & Experience:
GCSE English and Maths grade A – C or equivalent.Detailed knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Legislation.
Knowledge of EDRMS systems and benefitsExperience of using NEC Northgate Revenues & Benefits and/or Capita Academy.
Experience of assessing claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction.
Significant experience gained within a relevant benefits advisor roleProven aptitude for and experience of working with numbers / financial calculations.
Customer focussed with experience of working with, understanding and meeting the needs of customers.
What's involved with this role: As an Assessment Officer, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth assessments of individuals' needs, ensuring adherence to relevant policies and procedures. You will gather and evaluate information to make informed decisions on appropriate support services, collaborating closely with service users, families, and partner agencies.
Key responsibilities:
Process applications for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, Discretionary Council Tax Reduction, and Local Welfare Assistance promptly and accurately, in line with legislation and procedures.Resolve enquiries from residents, landlords, external agencies, and other Council departments through telephone, face-to-face, and written communication.
Advise customers on welfare assistance and refer them to appropriate external agencies when necessary.
Ensure the correct liability information is reflected in Council Tax accounts and resolve any discrepancies that could affect financial awards.
Take action to recover overpayments of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, and Discretionary Council Tax Reduction, or recommend write-offs as per policies and procedures.
