Verity is in her mid 40's and has an acquired brain injury. She lives in her own home and has a team of Support Workers who provide 24-hour care. is looking for new people to join her team and is very excited about meeting new people who can support her with her daily needs.

As part of her 24 hour care regime, Verity receives support with all aspects of care, including hoisting for all transfers, personal care, PEG feeding, catheter care, pressure care, suctioning and respiratory care. Verity does not need new team members to have experience in these areas of care, as training will be provided and she will guide new people, along with support from her current support workers who know her very well.

She does, however, require that new members to her support team are willing and able to learn the care skills needed to meet her needs.

In addition to providing personal care, Verity is supported to engage in social activities at home such as doing quizzes, watching television and films She also likes going out to the cinema, theatre or shopping, and very importantly, loves planning for Christmas and birthdays!

She has her own wheelchair accessible vehicle which she uses to go out in.

Verity cannot communicate verbally but can make her needs and wishes known through non verbal communication, body movements and facial expressions. She has a great sense of humour! The successful candidate will quickly learn if Verity is happy or not!

However, she relies on her family and Support Workers to learn and interpret her body language and facial expressions in order to identify and address her needs. She is registered blind and her care team explain everything to her, including describing her environment, new people, and even what is happening on the television…whatever programme is on… She enjoys soap dramas but also a range of other programmes (which sometimes includes Naked Attraction!)

Verity requires assistance and/or supervision at all times during the day and also has care input overnight. Overnight care is provided by way of one waking night Support Worker and one sleeping night Support Worker..

The sleeping night Support Worker has a separate suite next to Verity’s room which has a bed, toilet and kettle. The sleeping night Support Worker will only be woken if the waking night Support Worker requires assistance (such as for repositioning and changing clothes).

Working with Verity involves the need to provide assistance with moving and handling, including using hoisting equipment. It is important that all of her care team can manage physical tasks during each shift with her. Training will be provided to ensure the safety of Verity and her support team.

The most important consideration is that Support Workers must have a dedication to always providing the best possible care.

The job role available will be ideal for people who are very organised, dedicated and calm but also like to have fun, are very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to their work. This is wonderful opportunity to join a supportive family and care team, a truly rewarding role for someone who is able to communicate effectively and an ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth and compassion.
