Consultant Psychiatrist – Forensics | South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust
This consultant post has arisen due to the resignation of a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist in the Forensic Service. We are seeking to appoint a candidate who will be responsible for the care and treatment of 40-50 communitypatientslivinginsouth-westLondon.The successful candidate willalsoprovideclinicalleadership to the Criminal Justice Liaison & Diversion Service (courts and police custody) and provide a forensic consultancy service to the London Borough of Wandsworth.
Thesuccessful candidatewillbemanageriallyandprofessionallyaccountabletothe Forensic,National and Specialist Services Clinical Director.
Thepostisfull-time(10PAs) and the post holder will be working alongside another Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist within the team who works part time (5 PAs).
The employer is the Trust whose main base is Springfield University Hospital. It is a full-time post for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs): 7.5 PAs for Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 PAs for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).The clinical sessions are devoted to clinical work in the Forensic Outreach Service and Criminal Justice Liaison Service, and to providing a consultancy service to the London Borough of Wandsworth.
The post holder may be eligible to apply for an Honorary Senior Lectureship at St George’s, University of London.
The Trust has a comprehensive training scheme for Core and Higher Specialist Trainees and enjoys a close relationship with St George’s, Universityof London, an independent School of the University of London.
SGUL, in association with St George’s Hospital, is one of five general combined undergraduate/postgraduate teaching complexes within the Faculty of Medicine, University of London.During the 1970s, long-term plans to relocate the Medical School and the Teaching Hospital in Tooting were put into effect.The new Medical School opened in October 1976 admitting pre-clinical students for the first time.The Medical course now has an entry of 190 undergraduate students peryear,plus70graduate studentsonthe GraduateEntry Programme.
Since 1995, the range of courses offered has expanded to include Biomedical Sciences and, in conjunction with Kingston University, Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapyand Social Work.SGUL has a strong focus on research with world class teams particularly in Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology.In 2006, a new initiative, the South West London Academic Network, SWAN, wasannouncedtofurther researchandteachingcollaborations withKingston University and Royal Holloway, University of London.
The Consultant will be eligible to train a Higher Specialist Trainee (ST4-6) from the South London Higher Specialist Training Scheme in Forensic Psychiatry after successful completion of appraisal as an educational supervisor by the Training Programme Director.The post holder will be supported to pursue research as an SPA activity.
