Policy Advisor and Data Analyst

We are looking for a Policy Adviser & Data Analyst to support the District Councils’ Network. The District Councils’ Network (DCN) represents the diverse interests of our 169 member councils in England to central government. It is an exciting opportunity to support our member councils through a time of change.
The role offers frequent engagement with council leaders and chief executives across England as well as Government ministers and senior civil servants. It’s a great mix of policy, research, comms and delivery.
This is a hybrid-working role with the DCN office located at 18 Smith Square, Westminster, SW1P 3HZ. There’s an expectation of at least one day per week in the DCN office. We will though also consider other flexible working arrangements.
The Job
This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive and creative individual who can build relationships, develop policy, analyse data, conduct research and manage politics. The successful candidate will work as part of a small and dynamic team to support senior politicians and officers from across DCN councils to represent their interests with key partners.
The role will be an exciting opportunity to support our member councils at a time of considerable change and help develop the future shape of local government in England.
You will provide strategic policy advice to 169 local authorities within the District Councils’ Network (DCN), analysing data and undertaking research.
The Person
We’re looking for an ambitious and highly motivated individual with good political antennae and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of senior leaders.- You’ll have strong experience of developing and delivering policy.
- You’ll be adept at analysing data and diverse information to identify policy trends and help present compelling arguments.
- You’ll have excellent oral and written communication skills. You’ll be able to work independently and confidently represent DCN to our members and external audiences.
- Experience of working in local government isn’t essential but you’ll be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the policy and delivery priorities for district and unitary councils.
