Job overview

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and creative Occupational Therapist with later life mental health practice experience to join the Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Occupational Therapy Team to cover maternity leave for a period of 12 months.

The team delivers assessment and intervention for adults of all ages with complex mental health issues in both inpatient and community settings in Bath and the surrounding area. The team is friendly and supportive; we are strongly committed to staff wellbeing, reflective practice and continuing professional development.

We prioritise both management and professional supervision, and there are regular opportunities to link in with later life occupational therapists across the BANES, Swindon and Wiltshire division.

The post is 22.5 hours per week, with some flexibility around working days.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will deliver specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention on Cedar ward – a dementia assessment and treatment unit based at RUH, Bath.

You will work autonomously, be highly skilled in time management, prioritisation and risk assessment, and be able to manage a small caseload of individuals with complex needs. You will work closely with the MDT, providing the occupational perspective, to support service users on the ward.

You will be skilled in delivering a range of group and individual person-centred interventions and will be responsible for delivering timely assessments to support safe and effective discharge planning.

You will work alongside a B5 Occupational Therapist and will benefit from close working relationships with the MDT, including physiotherapy, art psychotherapies, psychology and the wider Occupational Therapy team. This role is supervised by a B7 Occupational Therapist.

The post is based in Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a beautiful city, surrounded by amazing countryside locations, and offering an impressive variety of arts, culture and sports. Easily commutable from surrounding areas, including excellent bus and rail links to Bristol, London and beyond, there is staff parking available as well as access to pool cars, charge points for electric cars, and lock up facilities for those cycling to work.
