Full Time - Monday to Friday - 8.30am to 5.30pm

£26,000 - £36,000 per annum (depending on experience)

The role of Customs Clearance Coordinator sits in our Freight team within one of our acquired businesses, CMI Logistics LTD, who pride themselves on offering a quality driven and reliable global freight forwarding service.

The role as a Customs Clearance Coordinator:

Join our dynamic team as a Customs Clearance Coordinator and play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of goods across borders. Based in our office and working Monday to Friday, you will be the key point of contact for all customs-related matters, ensuring compliance with UK and international regulations.

Responsibilities of a Customs Clearance Coordinator:

  • Manage and oversee the customs clearance process for all shipments, ensuring compliance with UK and international customs regulations.
  • Prepare and submit accurate customs documentation, including import/export declarations to HMRC.
  • Liaise with customs officials, freight forwarders, and clients to resolve any issues or discrepancies related to customs clearance.
  • Monitor and track shipments to ensure timely clearance and delivery, addressing any delays or issues that arise.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in customs laws, regulations, and procedures, ensuring the company’s practices remain compliant.
  • Assist in classifying goods according to the correct tariff codes and determining applicable duties and taxes.
  • Provide advice and support to internal teams and clients on customs-related matters, including documentation requirements and import/export restrictions.
  • Maintain accurate records of all customs transactions and related documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Day to day and month end reporting. Software updates.

Skills needed for the role of Customs Clearance Coordinator:

  • Experience in customs clearance and logistics, with a strong understanding of UK and international customs regulations.
  • Proficient in using customs software and CDS system, for submitting declarations and managing customs documentation.
  • Experience using Import and/or Export, NCTS (preferably NCTS 5).
  • Advanced computer skills, in particular with Excel (Vlookup & Pivot tables).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, especially when preparing and reviewing customs documentation and tariff classifications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with customs officials, clients, and internal teams.
  • Problem solving abilities, with a proactive approach to resolving customs-related issues and ensuring smooth clearance processes.
  • Knowledge of import/export procedures, including Incoterms, tariff codes, and duty calculations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple shipments simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines.
