Senior Financial Accountant

Reed Finance are delighted to be supporting one of our long-standing clients in the Higher Education sector on a new Senior Financial Accountant opportunity.

The successful candidate will manage the University’s financial accounting and external financial reporting, including preparing annual statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Plan and produce the University’s annual Financial Statements, liaising with external auditors, and preparing analyses to support financial data
• Develop and improve financial accounting systems and processes, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations
• Regularly reconcile balance sheet accounts, ensuring prompt rectification of errors and appropriate escalation of issues
• Prepare and submit annual external submissions
• Monitor and forecast University cash flow weekly, liaising with various departments to understand their financial needs
• Ensure VAT records are correct and submissions are made timely
• Oversee the effective running of the Finance Office, managing tasks such as payroll, month-end processes, and supplier payments
• Engage in training and networking to keep technical accounting knowledge current and mentor junior finance team members

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• First degree or equivalent professional qualification.
• Qualified Accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA).
• Previous experience in a similar role within a complex organisation.
• Excellent time management skills to meet internal and external deadlines.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of explaining complex financial issues to non-financial managers.
• Proactive and flexible approach to work, with a strong customer focus and commitment to service improvement.
