The Neonatal and Paediatric units are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated doctor to join our friendly and dynamic team.

You will become part of a growing team of doctors, who support patient care across Neonates and Paediatrics. You will deliver high quality, patient centred care within our inpatient services.

You will have opportunity to gain experience in undertaking quality improvement and audit work, advocating for children and young people.

If successful, you will be part of a supportive and learning environment that encourages both professional and personal development. Ideally you will have experience of working in both neonates and paediatrics and be adept in the coordination of care and discharge planning process.

In addition, you will also be motivated and committed to continuing professional development and demonstrate excellent communication and team working skills.

The post holder will provide care to children and young people in both Neonatal and Paediatric services. You will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge including all administrative duties associated with patient care.

Take part in the full shift rota.

Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive efficient paediatric service across Milton Keynes.

Provide evidence-based care for all patients within their sphere of responsibility.

Liaise effectively and in a timely manner with the General Practitioners, Community Services and all other health care agencies when appropriate.

Responsible for carrying out teaching as required and to contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.

Required to participate in audit, clinical governance.

Involvement in research is encouraged.

Medical and dental staff employed by the Trust are expected to comply with regional and appropriate hospital health and safety policies.

Paediatrics is made up of one inpatient ward with 22 beds, one assessment unit with escalation beds, a 16 bedded Level 2 Neonatal unit, together with an outpatient and community service.

Junior doctors work on a rolling rota, there is opportunity for supernumarary shifts, SPA, and experience in outpatient clinics and newborn infant physical examinations (NIPE).

There are 14 Consultants with 24/7 cover and at least one Registrar Middle Grade doctor available on every shift, in both Paediatrics and Neonates.

There are a number of audit and research opportunities in Paediatrics and we are keen for all doctors to be involved. There is robust teaching programme as well as a local Junior Doctor meeting which is an open forum where we encourage debate and feedback.

  • To provide, with colleagues, general paediatric and neonatal services for the prevention, diagnosis and management of illness and the proper functioning of the department.
  • To participate in the rolling rota which is outlined in the job plan, including long days and night shifts.
  • Departmental teaching is held weekly, and all doctors are encouraged to be an active contributor to the teaching program as well as research, audit participation and appraisal.
  • The post holder must maintain continuing professional development and will be encouraged to attend relevant professional courses and meetings.
