Access & Referral Co-ordinator, Band 4 - Specialist Community Learning Disability Service

Two roles: 1 x 37.5 hours 1 x 22.5 hours

This is an exciting time to join our service as we are currently in the process of developing our service and ways of working. We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, flexible, hardworking and motivated to contribute to our developing Business Support service, with particular focus around referrals.

In return we’ll offer you a very varied job, you’ll be part of a well-established and supportive team which is made up of multi-disciplinary professionals such as Nursing, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language, Psychiatry and Business Support.

You’ll also have opportunities for training and personal development, which we’re keen to support. The Learning Disabilities service offers health support to adults who have a Learning Disability who live in Sheffield, we support a fabulous range of people from a really diverse background and although it can occasionally be challenging, no two days are the same.

The Business Support Team is well valued within Learning Disabilities, and we work alongside a highly specialist team to provide a great service.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Specialist Community Learning Disability Service to receive referrals into the service and to make sure the team responds appropriately to referrals and queries. Including facilitating team referral meetings.

At SHSC, we prioritise the well-being and safety of both our service users and employees. It is our policy and a condition of employment that all employees must join the DBS Update Service. This service carries an annual fee, which employees are responsible for paying up front.

However, employees may claim this cost back through the Trust's Employee Expenses Reimbursement Policy. For those requiring a Basic DBS check, it is necessary to register for a DBS Online Account.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English Grade A-C or equivalent
  • RSA II Typing/Word Processing or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Good standard of general education

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills including good command of written English
  • Strong organisational skills, working efficiently using own initiative
  • Good understanding around confidentiality and data protection issues with regards to both clients and staff
  • Ability to produce documentation to a consistently high and accurate standard
  • Ability to problem solve including the ability to understand people’s problems and identify appropriate responses and also seek advice where appropriate
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to operate and access patient information systems
  • Ability to plan and prioritise diverse workload and meet deadlines

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office packages including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • At least 2 years relevant experience in an administrative/secretarial role
  • Experienced at dealing with members of the public/other professionals
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in NHS or similar role

Other

Essential criteria
  • Flexible and enthusiastic
  • Able to work under pressure in a changing environment
  • Capable of working unsupervised and also as a team member
  • Experience of working in a learning disability setting, with an understanding of the different needs within the various groups of people who access our services
  • A positive approach to people with a learning disability
