Your role and responsibilities

As an Engineer, you will provide technical approval and inspection services for NSIP's like Sizewell C. Working closely with Suffolk Highways, internal and external experts and our Planning Team, you'll ensure delivery aligns to the Council's transport policies. Key responsibilities include:
  • accurately recording technical details and managing legal agreements
  • negotiating appropriate technical solutions for road layouts, junctions, drainage etc.
  • keeping updated on technical specifications, Construction Design Management (CDM) and health and safety
  • assisting in discharging planning requirements.
You will need
  • level 5/6 qualification or equivalent highway design or delivery experience
  • ability to understand and critique plans and technical documents
  • desire to expand your engineering knowledge working towards professional qualification
  • a strong interest in transport strategy, especially engineering or transport planning
  • some understanding of guidance around planning, highway engineering and legal agreements
  • strong communication and problem-solving skills.

The team

You'll work within the Transport Strategy Team, part of the Growth, Highways, and Infrastructure Division of Suffolk County Council (SCC). You'll work with Transport Strategy colleagues, specifically Suffolk Highways, internal and external experts and our Planning Team, to ensure delivery of the Council’s transport policy and a seamless process from pre-application consultations to delivery. The Transport Strategy service is responsible for delivering inclusive growth as it applies to Transport in Suffolk. The group consists of five integrated teams with a head count of approximately 140 responsible for:
  • transport Strategy, policy development and implementation
  • delivery of integrated transport capital schemes from minor to major
  • highway development management including nationally significant infrastructure projects. The post is within this team
  • delivery of local transport improvement schemes
  • delivery of road safety education, training and publicity, and smarter choices.
