To act as a team leader responsible for the day to day management of the Occupational Therapy department in POW. Efficiently and effectively balancing patient care and staff management (clinical supervision, time management, sickness, annual leave, study).
To impart knowledge and skills guiding further knowledge acquisition acting as a mentor and delivering OT services to children and young people with special and complex physical difficulties in the community across CTUHB.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
Working closely with hospital, community, education and local authority based multi-disciplinary teams in order to maintain continuity of service and to be responsible for the effective treatment and management of children/young people with special needs and complex physical difficulties, in order to maximise potential and self-management.
Act as a specialist clinical resource, disseminating expert information to colleagues, general public and other healthcare professionals.
Be responsible for implementing change and monitoring standards or practice within the OT team and influencing MDT practice.
To take a major role in the advanced assessment and treatment of children and young people who may have complex presentations. To contribute to diagnosis reporting clinical observations and interpretations, complications associated with their conditions.
Take the lead with triaging paediatric patients, ensuring that patients are seen by the most appropriate healthcare professional.
To develop the service for children and young people across the Paediatric OT service using Advanced Clinical Decision Making and Care Aims, to deliver efficient and effective care addressing those most at high risk/high need. Address demand and capacity using these tools across the service.
To take a lead role in the education of stakeholders on the role of Occupational Therapy and maximising service provision and planning in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications/Knowledge
Essential criteria- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration.
- Evidence of attendance on post-graduate courses and advanced training to Masters level equivalence.
- Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent post graduate courses/advanced training to Masters level equivalent
- Member of RCOT Specialist Section
- Leadership/management qualification, e.g. ILM
Experience
Essential criteria- Extensive experience working within paediatric OT for children and young people with highly complex, physical needs.
- Managing a complex caseload and advanced clinical decision making abilities
- Experience of audit/ research (clinical and organisational).
- Providing professional development and clinical education of junior staff, students and assistants
- Leadership and representation in clinical networks/practice groups.
- Ability to use reflective practice based on current evidence.
- Experience of advising/teaching other professions.
- Awareness of current professional issues
- Experience of Compassionate leadership
Skills
Essential criteria- Excellent communication skills (verbal, nonverbal and written).
- Ability to carry out a range of assessments to support therapy planning and evaluation of progress
