Lead Mechanical Engineer - Crewe
Location: Cheshire East, UK
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Cheshire East. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers and designers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.
This role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex projects from inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Build, manage, and develop a team of mechanical engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Design and Engineering Deliverables: Prepare, review, and approve key design and engineering documents, including Basis of Design, datasheets, specifications, and Requests for Quotation (RFQs).
- Specifications and Scopes of Work: Develop and approve specifications and Scopes of Work for installation contractors and equipment suppliers, and conduct Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs).
- Construction and Commissioning Support: Provide direct input or oversight for onsite construction and commissioning activities, ensuring project requirements are met.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all mechanical deliverables produced by the Projects Group meet the required quality standards, specifications, and budget constraints.
- Project Design Reviews and Risk Assessments: Participate in project design reviews and risk assessments, including 3D model reviews, constructability assessments, and HAZOP studies.
- Strategic Planning and Business Development: Review and develop strategic plans, and propose new business opportunities to drive growth and innovation.
- Proposal Support: Assist in the preparation of proposals, including deliverable lists and cost, time, and resource estimates.
- Customer Engagement: Proactively engage with internal and external customers, developing and maintaining strong, positive business relationships.
- Travel Requirements: Some travel to Supplier Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), construction sites, and client site visits will be required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in leading and managing a team of engineers and designers.
- Strong technical expertise in mechanical engineering principles and practices.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in preparing and reviewing engineering documents and specifications.
- Experience with onsite construction and commissioning support.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance processes and standards.
- Ability to conduct thorough project design reviews and risk assessments.
- Strategic thinking and business development skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel as required.
